Barney the Beastie

For a primitive, folk art this little guy is pretty competent. Made of a single piece of wood and measuring a whopping 18" long x 6" high x 3.5" thick. The shaping of the form basic with additional painted detailing.

You may ask...why a curiosity? In this case because it simply is. Its proportions are off so much that it seems the product of dachshund and a cheetah (with a hugely oversized head). Or maybe some sort of mythological beast or animist god. We just don't know what it is, where or when its from. 

For sure a very unique piece.
